Mike McCarthy gives injury update on Michael Gallup, potential surgery

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup has yet to undergo surgery on his left ACL tear, according to Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. He tore the ACL in early January, so maybe doctors wanted to wait a bit before repairing the injury.
Gallup is likely to be a hot commodity on the free agency market this off-season, so teams across the league will be very interested in his surgery timeline. It’s a bit strange that he hasn’t already had the surgery, but there might be some sort of medical related issue that doctors are waiting to clear up. It’s tough to tell.
Michael Gehlken initially provided detailed information about the injury as Gallup laid on the field during the Arizona Cardinals game. According to his report, medical staff members performed the Lachman test – which evaluates structural integrity of the ACL. Staff members later helped him to the medical tent before being ruling him out.
Gallup started the game well, catching three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in the first half. However, the injury forced fellow receivers Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb to step up in a matchup between NFC contenders.
Despite playing just nine games in the 2021 season, Gallup entered the game with 32 receptions for 409 yards and one touchdown. He also started in seven of eight games, but missed seven games already this season.

Dak Prescott on Michael Gallup
Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott has developed a special chemistry with Gallup and the Cowboys’ signal caller shared his excitement to get him back on the field after early injury problems during the 2021 season.
“That’s a guy I’ve always counted on,” Prescott said of Michael Gallup.
“Getting him for this week, I’m excited about it. He’s excited. He made some big plays out here in practice. I know he’s ready to go.”
Michael Gallup was a vertical deep threat this team missed early this season. Of his 13 career touchdowns entering the season, five have covered 30 or more yards. Without Gallup, CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper became more involved in the vertical passing game along with Cedrick Wilson.
Gallup also shared his thrill to move forward and put the injury behind him.
“It was definitely very frustrating,” he said. “It comes with the game, injuries happen and for me fortunately it wasn’t anything to keep me out the whole season. I’m blessed about that but definitely mad that I did take that injury. But it’s something to overcome — that’s all it is.”
