The NBA Draft is in 12 days, but the Mavericks are already welcoming Cooper Flagg to Dallas. A bit of a blunder was made by someone in their website department on Friday, as they posted a graphic announcing the Duke star as their pick at No. 1 overall.

There isn’t a lot of drama surrounding the pick, as Flagg is widely considered a shoo-in for Dallas. Still, the NBA won’t be happy that there won’t be any faux drama drummed up over the next week and change. Check out the post below, shared to X by Kevin Gray Jr. and Front Office Sports.

All told, it’s not that big of a deal in the long run, but it does take a bit of wind out of the sails of the 2025 NBA Draft. The show will officially start with No. 2 and the San Antonio Spurs, as Flagg will be heading to Dallas, it seems.

It’s far from a surprise, as Flagg has been viewed as the top prospect in the cycle since he reclassified to the 2024 class. Playing one season at Duke only confirmed what many thought of him, and drove home the point that he could be a superstar at the next level.

In Dallas, Flagg will be stepping into a franchise still feeling the effects of the Luka Doncic trade, one that shook the entire sports world. The Mavericks could not bounce back in the short term, falling in the NBA Play-In, losing to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Just a 1.8% chance was there for Dallas to win the lottery. And for the first time ever, they wound up moving up from their original spot. The jump was 10 spots from the 11th-best odds, earning the right to draft the Duke superstar. A momentous occasion.

It’s easy to see why they’re eager to get Flagg to Dallas, as he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists throughout his 37 games played this past season. He shot just over 48% from the field and 38.5% from three. An excellent defender is on his way to the NBA, too, as Flagg was named ACC All-Defensive team.

Hell now joins a team already filled with superstars, hoping to win in the immediate future. Fellow former Duke players Kyrie Irving and Derrick Lively are in Dallas, alongside Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson. The future is bright for Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks, and in 12 days, it’ll be official.
