With NFL free agency frenzy in full swing, it was only a matter of time before somebody made a big mistake. Damien Harris, current running back for the New England Patriots, was mentioned in a tweet by Fox Sports. Fox mentioned that Harris had signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. The problem was, they actually meant Damien Williams, since Damien Harris is still with the New England Patriots. Williams’ agent, Ian Greengross responded to the tweet by Fox Sports and let them know about the blunder, since he was tagged in it.

Check out the tweets below by Harris and Damien Williams’ agent that helps to explain it.

It’s a pretty hilarious mistake and quite honestly, it’s not surprising something like this happened considering the sheer volume of information flowing through the pipeline during NFL free agency.

Damien Harris career numbers

Harris had another strong season this year for the New England Patriots, putting up over 1,000 all-purpose yards, including 929 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. During his three seasons in New England, the former Alabama product has rushed for 1,632 rushing yards on 343 carries, while scoring 17 touchdowns on the ground. While he hasn’t gotten anywhere near the hype, recognition, or media attention of other Crimson Tide running backs in years past, Harris has proven to be a very good tailback at the next level.

When he played for Alabama, he still accomplished some really, really good things for the Crimson Tide. Harris rushed for 3,070 career rushing yards, ranking him eighth all-time in program history. Harris was also only one of just eight running backs in the program’s history to eclipse over 3,000 yards.

Like much of the rest of Alabama’s roster, Harris was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school, earning a five-star rating according to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2015 class. He was also rated as the No. 26 prospect in the country, according to the same rankings.

Damien Williams stats

He played last season with the Chicago Bears after starting his career with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs.

After opting out of the 2020 season, Williams played in 12 games for Chicago in 2021. He had 40 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while adding 16 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown in the air.

His best year came in 2019 with the Chiefs when he had 111 carries for 498 yards and five touchdowns to go with 30 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns. He was a big reason Kansas City was able to make a run and win the Super Bowl that year.

He’ll get a chance to build off last season in a Falcons backfield that could lose Cordarrelle Patterson, who entered free agency. Patterson — who also previously played for the Bears — proved to be a gadget back, totaling 153 carries for 168 yards and six rushing touchdowns and 52 receptions for 548 yards and five receiving touchdowns.

Atlanta went 7-10 in 2021 and has also been linked to Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who’s seeking a trade.
