Darius Slay injury update: Steelers reveal CB's status in Wednesday practice report

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shared the first injury update on cornerback Darius Slay, who suffered a concussion during Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. In the Week 11 Wednesday practice report, Slay did not practice because he’s in concussion protocol.
“Slay is in the concussion protocol, and so we’ll let the protocol determine his availability,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Wednesday. Slay, who is in his first year with the Steelers, finished the night with three tackles. Through nine games this year, the 34-year-old has registered 34 tackles, three passes defended, and one fumble recovery.
Darius Slay is in his 13th NFL season. He began his career with the Detroit Lions and was with the team from 2013 to 2019. Slay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 and helped the team win the Super Bowl last year.
In March, Slay signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Steelers. In his career, the Brunswick, Georgia native has been named to the Pro Bowl six times and was selected to the All-Pro First Team in 2017.

Darius Slay describes his role with the Steelers
“I think physicality when I hear Steelers defense,” Slay said after signing with the Steelers. “I am going to fit in wherever needed. Whatever the coaches need me to do, whatever they need me to do in this role, I am here to do it to the best of my ability. Whether that’s leading with my play, whatever. This organization has been winning championships way before I won one. I just want to be here and be a sponge for guys to learn from.”
Slay was not the only Steelers player to not practice on Wednesday. The other players who missed practice were CB Cory Trice Jr. (hamstring/knee), LB Cole Holcomb (illness), LB Alex Highsmith (pectoral), OL Broderick Jones (groin), TE Jonnu Smith (NIR – rest), LB TJ Watt (NIR – rest), and DL Cameron Heyward (NIR – rest).
OL Isaac Seumalo was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a pectoral injury, and WR Scotty Miller (finger) and S Jabrill Peppers (quadricep) were full participants. The Steelers’ next game will be against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
