Colorado head coach Deion Sanders believes his son, Shedeur Sanders, will start for the Cleveland Browns at some point during his rookie season. Shedeur Sanders is currently the third QB on the Browns roster behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel.

“Be patient and be ready,” Sanders said of his son during an appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast. “You got to be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you’re going to know. And it’s coming up. I got a prediction. I ain’t telling nobody. I got a feeling when it’s going to go down. But it’s going to go down this year. … He’s going to get a shot.”

The Browns are currently off to a 1-2 start to the season. Flacco, 40, has struggled to begin the season. In three games, he’s thrown four interceptions compared to two touchdowns. However, the Browns won their first game of the season on Sunday, defeating the Green Bay Packers 13-10 at home.

Sanders was the second quarterback that the Browns drafted during April’s annual event. Gabriel went one round of Sanders, who was picked up in the fifth round by the franchise. Gabriel remains one spot ahead of Sanders on the depth chart, so he’d have to wait his turn behind Gabriel if the team turns away from Flacco.

Schefter revealed earlier this month that the Baltimore Ravens had intended to select Sanders 141st overall, but his group turned they away. The Ravens have former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson on its roster, so Sanders wouldn’t have a chance to see the field anytime soon. Three picks later, and Sanders was a Cleveland Brown.

“I put Shedeur on the phone,” Coach Prime said. ‘And I don’t want to say how it went, but how in the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking, ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar [Jackson] for 10 more years?’ I’ve never sat on the bench and said, ‘Well, I learned a lot today.'”

When Sanders arrived in Cleveland, Kenny Pickett was still on the roster. Deshaun Watson is still around but on the PUP list. The quarterback room was as crowded as any in the NFL, but Sanders has a chance to see the field as a rookie if things continue to go downhill for Cleveland.

For now, Joe Flacco is still the guy heading into Week 4. The Browns will take on the Lions in Detroit on Sunday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. ET live on FOX.
