DeMarcus Cousins suspended after scratching genitals, rubbing hand on face of heckler

DeMarcus Cousins has been suspended for the rest of Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League’s season following an incident with a fan sitting courtside. The former NBA star appeared to grab himself south of the equator and shove the same hand in a heckler’s face in the front row.
A video was captured by someone in the stands and later posted on social media. The fan appears to be flashing a middle finger toward Cousins, and he reacted. Cousins was escorted away from the situation by his teammates moments after. Watch the full incident below:
While Cousins was ejected from the game, it wasn’t the end of his night. He still had to make the walk from the court to the locker room, which featured even more contentious moments between him and the fans on-hand at the game.
As he was leaving, Cousins appeared to jaw at the fans and even flash the bird toward them. They responded by dumping drinks on his head, among other objects thrown at him as he entered the tunnel.
On top of being suspended for the remainder of the season, he has also been fined $4,250 by rule for a “disqualifying foul, a technical foul, and acts that incite violence or provocation,” according to Baloncesto Superior Nacional. If unable to “show cause,” he may be fined up to $10,000.

Cousins was in his second stint in the league with Mets de Guaynabo, who he first played for in 2023. He returned to the league after signing with the team in April, and played in his first game the following month.
The former five-star recruit and NBA lottery pick has been playing on the international scene since his inital run in the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League. His run outside of the NBA also includes stops in Mongolia, Taiwan and Dubai.
Before that, he spent 11 seasons in the NBA. He was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft out of Kentucky by the Sacramento Kings, where he spent seven seasons. Cousins would go on to play for the New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks before rounding out his NBA stint with the Denver Nuggets in 2022.
Cousins is also an Olympic Gold Medalist. He won the coveted medal as a part of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games with Team USA.
