Denny Hamlin appears to call out reporter during NASCAR antitrust trial

Even during the biggest NASCAR trial in the history of the sport, Denny Hamlin has found time to get on social media. Hamlin has finished his testimony, this means he can now remain in the courtroom during the rest of the trial. He also has access to his phone during the breaks in the trial.

During a break around 3:20 PM ET, Denny Hamlin replied to a post from Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. Pockrass posted, “Court in break. NASCAR exec Scott Prime has been on the stand, being grilled by 23XI atty Jeffrey Kessler on early charter negotiation strategy and his/O’Donnell reaction to LIV golf and early team negotiating demands. Nothing huge new as most revealed in past public documents.”

Perhaps Hamlin felt Pockrass downplayed the revelations in Prime’s testimony. The “Nothing huge new as most revealed in past public documents,” line might be the cause of contention.

“Lol,” Denny Hamlin posted. “Nothing to see here, am I right?”

To be fair to Pockrass, he has posted a thread regarding Prime’s testimony now that the court has let out. That includes a line from Kessler where he seemingly teased the executive vice president by asking, “Were you the administrative assistant?”

The tagline for the Plaintiffs appears to be “documents don’t lie.” They are going to rely heavily on the emails and text messages between NASCAR higher-ups. Kessler said it in his opening statement, and Hamlin reportedly recalled the tagline a few times in his testimony as well.

Denny Hamlin has called out media recently

Now, the reply from Denny Hamlin to Bob Pockrass was maybe a bit strange, but it wasn’t as bad as what Hamlin had to say about Ryan McGee of ESPN over the weekend. Hamlin accused the longtime NASCAR writer of writing propaganda with the help of Mike Forde, NASCAR’s managing director of racing communications.

Hamlin was passionate and emotional during his testimony. It is clear that this trial means a lot to him. So, it is not shocking to see him speak his mind on social media a little bit. I’m not shocked that he’s defensive going into and during a trial that he either wins and keeps his race team, or he loses and likely loses his team with the trial. 23XI Racing wouldn’t be able to continue to operate without charters beyond 2026.

Clearly, this means a lot to everyone involved. It is a big deal. While the rest of the sports world hasn’t paid much attention recently, the NASCAR world is likely going to change in a matter of days. Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan are seeing to it that it changes. What that looks like is unclear, but these two sides are going to fight it out for the next eight days in court.
