Denny Hamlin calls out Jordan Bianchi over Shane van Gisbergen take: 'Absolutely out of his mind'

Denny Hamlin called out NASCAR insider Jordan Bianchi for his take on Shane van Gisbergen, who won the Charlotte Roval on Sunday. On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin said Bianchi was wrong to say that Jeff Gordon could compete with van Gisbergen on road courses.
“Jordan Bianchi is absolutely out of his mind,” Denny Hamlin began. “Yeah, he’s on the short-list for the best NASCAR road racer ever. What is he talking about? Does he really think that Jeff Gordon, in his prime, would beat SVG today in a NextGen car? Not a chance. Not a remote chance.”
Hamlin then pointed out that when Gordon was competing, he wasn’t winning the road course races by a wide margin. He also said that Gordon wasn’t “racing cars equal to everyone else.”
Hamlin also said that Gordon is on the Mount Rushmore of one of the greatest drivers in history. “But when it comes to turning left and right, they are not close, and SVG is the greatest road course NASCAR driver in history, and he’s only been doing it for a year and a half,” Hamlin said. “It’s undisputed. Anybody that disputes it, even in my mentions, shut up! I know, you don’t, I compete, you don’t.”
Could Jeff Gordon take on Shane van Gisbergen in road course races?
Back in August, Bianchi debated with fellow NASCAR insider Jeff Gluck about Shane van Gisbergen being the best road course driver in history. Gluck said that SVG is the GOAT of the road course, as he’s winning the races by a wide margin. But Bianchi said that the New Zealand native is not on the same level as Gordon.

“Gordon was all-time, and he was so good that at that era, there were people thinking that he could have moved to Formula One and been competitive,” Bianchi said on The Teardown podcast. “No offense to SVG, that conversation has been had.
“I’m not saying that SVG isn’t the greatest, but look at Gordon’s body of work, look at what he did, the number of wins. And it would have been interesting to see if there had been more road courses at the time, what his stats would have looked like even more.”
With the victory at the Charlotte Roval on Sunday, Shane van Gisbergen has won the last five road course races and six in his NASCAR Cup Series career. Gordon won a total of nine road course races in his career, but NASCAR had two of those races each season when he was competing.
