For the fourth time this season, Denny Hamlin is a winner in the NASCAR Cup Series. He gets another win at Dover in the Next Gen. This is the second Dover win in a row for Hamlin. Monster Mile is no match for the 11-team today.

Today’s race was all about track position. Look no further than Chase Elliott’s race-high 238 laps led. Once Elliott lost that track position after a bad pit stop. From there, Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin took over the race.

Through a lengthy rain delay and then two overtimes, Hamlin remained steady. He wins again this season and looks like a legitimate championship contender.

Denny Hamlin has stolen some races this year, folks. He did it at Darlington, he did it at Michigan. He’s now done it again at Dover. Hamlin didn’t have to be the most dominant driver on the track, he just had to play the game smart.

Once again, huge credit to Chris Gayle. He came in as Hamlin’s new crew chief this season, and expectations were uncertain. Now this team has four wins and could have had a couple of other wins if things play out differently for their team.

Chase Briscoe comes in second place. He was no match for Hamlin in overtime despite having newer tires. Christopher Bell spun himself out again from the front as this race was ending and sent it into overtime. He wound up P18.

Denny Hamlin fends off pair of teammates to win Dover

As Denny Hamlin was fighting for this win, he had to fight his teammates. Joe Gibbs Racing was almost guaranteed to have a win today with Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, and Christopher Bell up front at the end of the race.

Chase Elliott really looked great today. The good news is, he takes over the points lead from William Byron after today. The bad news, he led more than half the race and couldn’t win. In fact, he had to settle for P6.

Was this a great race? No. It wasn’t very exciting; aero was so important and kept drivers from passing. We didn’t see anyone punch a ticket to the playoffs that didn’t already have a win this season. That’s good for the drivers on the bubble right now.

Next week, Denny Hamlin is hoping to win again. He has yet to win a Brickyard 400 and wants to win that Crown Jewel race to complete his collection. Can he use the momentum from this win to get another in Indy next week?
