Denver Broncos waive running back Melvin Gordon III
In a shocking turn of events, Melvin Gordon III has been waived by the Denver Broncos.
Even with the injury to Javonte Williams earlier this season, Gordon hasn’t found much burn, and now the AFC West franchise has made their divorce official.

“We’ve waived RB Melvin Gordon III,” tweeted the franchise.
On the season, the former Wisconsin star has amassed only 318 rushing yards on 90 attempts, finding the end zone twice in 2022. While he came close to 1,000 rushing yards during his previous two seasons with the franchise, it was evident from the beginning he didn’t vibe with the team’s new coaching staff.
Prior to joining the Broncos, Gordon spent five seasons with their rival, the Los Angeles Chargers. He elevated to one of the best running backs in the NFL over his time in San Diego and Los Angeles, but he couldn’t keep up the same level of production in Denver.
Over recent weeks, Gordon has lost carries to veteran running back Latavius Murray, who the Broncos claimed off waivers earlier this season. If previous reports didn’t reveal his standing with the franchise, the fact that he fell out of favor for Murray should’ve.
Next season, Gordon will be 30-years old, and his legs aren’t getting any younger. It remains to be seen whether or not he’ll get another shot in the NFL, but anything more than a part-time role would be surprising.
Still, stranger things have happened, and it’s evident the fire still burns hot in Gordon, as he wanted the rock as many times as Denver was willing to give it to him. Perhaps he’ll find his way onto a contending team, something the Broncos have proven over and over again throughout the 2022 season they are not.
