One of the most famous performers on the planet won’t be available at the Super Bowl due to a family emergency. On Thursday evening, TMZ Sports reported that DJ Tiesto won’t perform at the Super Bowl, due to a ‘personal family emergency’.

“Me and my team have been preparing something truly special for months, but a personal family emergency is forcing me to return home Sunday morning,” Tiësto said on Twitter. “It was a tough decision to miss the game, but family always comes first.”

This would have been the first time the NFL had an in-game DJ for the Super Bowl…and Tiesto–who has sold more than 36 million albums–was honored to take on that role in the big game. He was among the artists announced as Super Bowl entertainment along with Reba McEntire, who will sing the national anthem, Post Malone, singing “America the Beautiful” and Andra Day, who will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

According to an article written by Jem Aswad of Variety, a rep for the NFL said there is a plan to replace Tiesto. But no further details were available hours after his official announcement on Twitter.

He’s one of the most celebrated DJ’s of all-time. In 2013, Tiesto was voted by DJ Mag readers as the “best DJ of the last 20 years.” Tiesto is also regarded as the “Godfather of EDM” by many different sources.

He’s currently on tour, so that has to be temporarily on hold while he deals with the family emergency. While he’s expected to play in a number of different cities across the U.S. and the world, the majority of the appearances are set in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tiesto drew rave reviews for his performance at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. He’s been nominated for three Grammy Awards during his time, winning once for the song, “All of Me” that he remixed with John Legend. It won best remixed recording and non-classical.

In the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Rankings, he ranked No. 1 three different times in his career, 2002, 2003, and 2004.

This year’s Super Bowl will be played in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada–home of the Las Vegas Raiders. The stadium has some of the finest amenities of any stadium on the planet. It certainly won’t be a cheap ticket to get into the game. And we’ll have to see if the NFL finds a replacement for Tiesto for in-game entertainment.
