Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith is on the verge of making MLB history after winning his third World Series championship last week. Smith recently attended a World Series celebration event at the newly opened Raising Cane’s in Hollywood, and On3 was there to cover the event. During Smith’s press conference, On3 asked Smith if he ever thought he would win three championships and be one title away from tying the third-most in MLB history for catchers.

“Not as a kid,” Will Smith told On3 and a group of reporters. “I think after 2020, we won the first one, you just kind of want more. It’s hard to win a World Series, and it takes a team, and I’m just fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity each and every year to be on a good team and have a chance to win.”

Smith is tied with a handful of catchers for the fourth-most World Series titles and is one behind longtime New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada. Bill Dickey has he second-most with seven, and another longtime Yankees catcher, Yogi Berra, has the most with nine.

It took the Dodgers seven games to take down the Toronto Blue Jays in this year’s World Series. Smith played a big role in the team winning the championship, hitting a home run in the 11th inning of Game 7 to give the Dodgers the 5-4 victory. The Dodgers won their ninth World Series and became the first National League team since the Cincinnati Reds in 1975-76 to win back-to-back championships.

With the win, Smith visited the Raising Cane’s on Sunset Boulevard to celebrate with fans and work a “shift.” Raising Cane’s founder and owner, Todd Graves, showed Smith how to bag orders, fill drinks, take orders from the drive-thru, and make Chicken Fingers. Smith and Graves then took the stage to cheering fans, and Graves presented Smith with a $100,000 donation to his Catching Hope Foundation, which empowers under-resourced youth through leadership, literacy, and fitness programs.

“I grew up loving Cane’s. I love their chicken, their sauce, I love the Cane’s Toast too, so I’m excited to be here,” Smith said. “It’s fun celebrating with all of these people and seeing what the Dodgers mean to them. It only adds motivation for the offseason and going into next year.”
