While this game could mean everything when it comes to the College Football Playoff and just the postseason in general, there’s a shadow over this game. It comes from Rebels coach Lane Kiffin.

The pursuit from LSU and Florida are real, but perhaps the offers could be similar. All three schools are set to offer Kiffin in the $13 million per year range per On3’s Chris Low, Brett McMurphy and Pete Nakos.

Florida, LSU and Ole Miss are all prepared to offer at least $25 million in NIL roster investment for Kiffin. How much each program can offer in roster funds has become a critical factor for Kiffin, who has built his current program at Ole Miss on an aggressive budget and transfer portal acquisition.

Kiffin told On3 in an interview earlier this season that “money won’t be the reason I make any decision, and I’ve never made decisions based on money.” He is currently tied for the 11th-highest-paid coach in the sport, earning $9 million this season, not including bonuses. Georgia’s Kirby Smart currently leads the sport with a $13.2 million salary. 

A resolution, we would think, on the Kiffin front is set for after the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss and Mississippi State have to square off first before we get any concrete answers it seems.
