Erik Jones fumes at NASCAR on radio over questionable debris caution at Darlington

Erik Jones sounded off on NASCAR for a questionable debris caution at the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway. The caution happened during Stage 2 of the race when debris was spotted in Turn 4 in the middle of green-flag pit stops.
“WHAT THE F***, NASCAR, ARE WE F***ING DOING?…a car wrecked and we don’t throw it…limping around and now there’s nothing out here,” Jones said. The comments came as Jones was battling for a top-10 spot in the race.
It has not been the best week for Jones and Legacy Motor Club. After the Martinsville Cup Series race last week, Jones was disqualified because the No. 43 car failed to meet the weight requirement following a post-race inspection.
“Legacy Motor Club will not appeal the disqualification of the No. 43 car following Sunday’s race at Martinsville Speedway,” the team said in the statement. “We understand NASCAR allows a clear margin to account for the difference in pre- and post-race weight. After a thorough audit by the Club today, we have concluded that we did not give ourselves enough margin to meet the post-race requirement. Although it was not intentional, we are taking steps internally to prevent this from happening again. We therefore accept the penalty and apologize to NASCAR, our partners and fans.”

Not the best start of the 2025 season for Erik Jones
Erik Jones is not off to the best start of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. His best finish has been the Daytona 500 when he placed 12th. And with the disqualification at Martinsville last week, Jones suffered his worst finish of the year (38).
In August, Jones signed a contract extension with Legacy Motor Club. “I’m looking forward to what we can build at Legacy Motor Club,” Jones said in a release. “I’ve been with the No. 43 car for a handful of years and feel like I’m coming into some of the best years of my career. I am hoping to grow alongside Legacy MC in the seasons to come.”
Erik Jones is in his ninth season as a full-time Cup Series driver. In his career, Jones has three Cup Series wins and 90 top-10 finishes. Two of Jones’ victories were the 2019 and 2022 Southern 500.
