Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott limped off the field after an awkward tackele where his ankle was pinned under the weight of his tackler. As Elliott caught a short route to the sideline, he was wrapped up and the tackler’s knee drove down into Elliott’s right ankle. Elliott immediately appeared to be in pain, motioning to the sideline for a substitution as he limped slowly to his team.

The injury came on Dallas’ first good drive of the game, after their first two ended quickly. The Cowboys began the game with a three-and-out, then watched Kansas City open the game with a touchdown. The Cowboys failed to respond on their second drive, ending on the third play with a Dak Prescott fumble.

The Cowboys found success on the drive Elliott was injured on, finally putting some points on the board as they trailed 9-3. Elliott’s injury will be one to watch throughout the game, as he has battled various injuries for most of the season.

Elliott would return to the game midway through the Cowboys next drive, missing only a few snaps on offense. As the Cowboys run plays to both Elliott and Tony Pollard, Elliott’s missing snaps is not uncommon this season.

CeeDee Lamb head injury

While Elliott’s injury did not force him to miss significant time on the field, the Cowboys lost star receiver CeeDee Lamb for the second half against the Kansas City Chiefs after a head injury before halftime. As quarterback Dak Prescott threw to the end zone as the second quarter was ending, the pass intended for Lamb was intercepted. On the play, Lamb’s head bounced hard off the ground and Lamb was assisted into the locker room for halftime.

The Cowboys ended the first half with more frustration after Prescott’s pass was intercepted, taking away a chance at a potential field goal. Unfortunately, the bigger result of the play would be Lamb’s injury. After his helmet bounced off the field, Lamb was examined for a potential concussion in the locker room.

While the Cowboys did not confirm any specific diagnosis, they informed the broadcast team that Lamb was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a head injury.

Lamb had only three catches for 14 yards in the game before leaving with injury. The absence of Lamb is compounded by fellow star receiver Amari Cooper’s absence. Cooper was ruled out before Sunday’s game after testing positive for COVID-19. Cooper was not vaccinated, and will be forced to quarantine for at least ten days.
