Five potential ownership groups headlined by big names have submitted non-binding bids to purchase the Denver Broncos, according to Front Office Sports. The list of suiters is not complete, with two unnamed groups in the running, but sale promises to set off a bidding war between those interested.

Todd Boehly, a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers and Sparks, is among those interested in purchasing the team. He is joined in the running by Josh Harris, a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils and Crystal Palace FC in England.

The two are also bidding against each other for Chelsea FC, one of the biggest clubs in Europe, after Russian owner Roman Abramovich decided to sell amid sanctions.

Despite the sports ownership experience of those two, when it comes to disposable money they cannot compare to Walmart heir Rob Walton, who is worth $70.4 billion, per Forbes.

While the other two ownership groups are not currently known, multiple people expressed interest over recent months when asked about the potential sale. One of those candidates, Entertainment Studios CEO Byron Allen, showed a great interest in becoming the first Black owner in the NFL and helping pave the way as one of the few minority leaders in sports.

Another outspoken group, whose financial ability was called into question, was fronted by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown. He named rapper and fashion designer Kanye West as someone who he would like to launch a bid with to own an NFL franchise despite continuing to seek an opportunity to play.

More about the Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos franchise has risen in attractiveness over recent months, not that ownership of an NFL franchise is ever an unattractive opportunity. Stability in the front office with team legend John Elway working with George Patton has brought a series of good draft classes into the fold and a blockbuster move might complete the puzzle ahead of 2022.

The addition of former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson puts the team in immediate contention. The past two Super Bowl winners, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams, each added a Pro Bowl quarterback ahead of their championship run.

In addition, the NFL continues to grow its brand each year, making ownership in any city or situation a lucrative proposition at this time. With a CBA which runs until 2030, there is also high stability in the league’s operations for the remainder of the decade.
