Former Dallas Cowboys defensive back Kelvin Joseph Jr. was arrested and charged with a DWI for his involvement in a fatal collision, the Plano Police Department confirmed via Paul Livengood of ABC 8. Officers responded to the incident just before 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to the authorities in Richardson via Livengood, “A 27-year-old woman riding a motorcycle died Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 75. … The motorcyclist, identified by police as Cody Morris, was pronounced dead at the scene,” he reported.

Richardson PD confirmed via ABC 8 that there weren’t any other vehicles or people located at the crash scene, but Joseph Jr. “called (the Plano Police Department at approximately 5:39 a.m) and said he’d been involved in a crash. Richardson police contacted Joseph determined he traveling was northbound on U.S. 75 in a BMW sedan when he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle.

“Police said officers observed signs of intoxication while speaking to Joseph. He was arrested and charged with DWI and collision involving personal injury or death,” Livengood wrote.

Joseph Jr. was in the midst of his first season in the United Football League. He joined the DC Defenders after spending four seasons in the NFL with six different teams. He was with the Cowboys from 2021 to 2022, finishing out his time in the league with stops in Miami, Seattle, Kansas City, Indianapolis and Minnesota.

All in all, he’s amassed 39 total tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Joseph Jr. also boasted four pass deflections in his career.

Prior to being drafted in the second round with the No. 44 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, Joseph Jr. played for two SEC schools in LSU and Kentucky. With the Wildcats, Joseph Jr. was tied for second in the SEC with four interceptions during his lone year with the team.

The Cowboys had hoped Kelvin Joseph Jr. would be a major steal in the NFL Draft, but his football career certainly hasn’t panned out the way he thought it was going to. He’ll now have a bevy of legal troubles to sort through after a heartbreaking incident that took place on Saturday morning.
