Former Miami star Micheal Barrow was reportedly arrested outside of a South Florida airport on Monday night after inadvertently punching his wife. Andy Slater reported news of the arrest on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Slater, citing police, Barrow reportedly “went to punch a family member during an argument but accidentally punched his wife and then she fell to the ground.” Those were the only details provided.

A Broward County court record matching Barrow’s birthday and physical attributes shows he was charged with three counts of domestic touch or strike/battery. The counts are first-class misdemeanors. Of note: The name on the arrest record is “Michael” C. Barrow, likely indicating a clerical error on the spelling of his first name.

Bond was not listed for Micheal Barrow. However, he has filed a written plea of not guilty to the charges, entered on Sept. 3.

TMZ provided further reporting on the arrest, which occurred at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Per TMZ, Barrow and some family members were involved in an argument that spilled over and escalated once they arrived at their terminal.

After someone taunted Barrow, Barrow threatened to punch them. Barrow’s wife Shelley then stepped in to break things up, but Barrow inadvertently struck her and “caused her to fall on the ground.” He then followed up by punching the person he had been quarreling with “in the face with a closed fist,” after which a wrestling match ensued.

Barrow is a south Florida native, having grown up in Homestead, Fla. He then attended the University of Miami, where he emerged as a star.

He was a consensus All-American in 1992, as well as a two-time national champion, helping Miami win titles in 1989 and 1991. He was also named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 1992.

Following his time at Miami, Micheal Barrow was selected in the 1993 NFL Draft. He was a second-round pick, going No. 47 overall to the Houston Oilers.

During his time in the NFL, Barrow recorded 153 starts in 173 appearances. He logged 1,124 tackles, 57 tackles for a loss, 43 sacks, 22 forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries and 19 passes defended.

After retiring from the NFL and hanging up the cleats, Micheal Barrow got into coaching. He spent some time back at his alma mater, Homestead High School, as both an assistant head coach and a defensive coordinator.

He would go on to coach for Randy Shannon at Miami, taking a job in 2007 and staying with the program through the 2013 season. He then entered the NFL ranks as a coach, where he spent three years with the Seattle Seahawks.
