Frankie Muniz just wrapped up his first season as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Truck Series, and now the question is, what’s next for him? The 39-year-old driver and actor recently appeared on the Stacking Pennies podcast and was asked about his career aspirations in NASCAR.

“I think everybody who’s out there, their dream would be in the Cup Series,” Frankie Muniz said. “I’m realistic in the sense that I know it’s going to be really difficult for me to get there at 40 years old. When I went racing, I really didn’t set a goal.”

Muniz then talked about the challenges he experienced while competing in ARCA. And when he began competing in the Xfinity Series (now O’Reilly Auto Parts Series) and the Truck Series, he realized that he “still had a lot to learn.”

Muniz also explained why he put himself in the Truck Series full-time. “I feel like if yoy want to race against good guys, you’ve got to race against good guys,” Muniz said. “I can’t keep doing what I was doing that made me feel like I was so much better than I maybe am. I’ve learned a lot this year because of that.”

Frankie Muniz will star in new Disney+ series next year

The fact that Muniz competed in the Truck Series the entire season is a success. He missed four races because of an injury, but the Malcolm in the Middle star earned a P10 finish at Daytona to start the year and finished 26th in the standings.

But how did Muniz, an Emmy Award-nominated actor, get involved in racing? “2004, I got to do the pro celebrity race that Toyota put on in Long Beach,” Muniz said. “I won that, and that feeling of crossing the finish line first… It was something I was like, whoa. And even at that point, I never thought I would be a racecar driver. I loved watching. I was a huge fan of it since I was five years old. I remember waking up and watching NASCAR races and Formula One races and IndyCar races and just loving it.”

With the NASCAR season over, Muniz will now likely focus on his entertainment career. Next year, Muniz is set to start in the Malcolm in the Middle revival series, Malcolm in the Middle: Let’s Still Unfair, and it will stream on Disney+.
