George Pickens defended his trade to the Dallas Cowboys when he sparred with some Pittsburgh Steelers fans on social media. A thread that highlighted Pickens’ “timeline of trouble” elicited a response from the wide receiver.

Pickens defended the trade on Twitter when engaging with SteelerNation’s Brandon James Wallace. The new Cowboys wide receiver has since deleted the tweets, but the interactions were screenshotted.

Pickens is seemingly ready to move on to the next phase of his career. But there’s at least a little bad blood with how it all played out, especially if the former Georgia star is going to be blamed for everything. Logically, Pickens wouldn’t want to just take that.

“Lmaooo. I play for cowboys bro stop reminiscing,” Pickens said in response. “And trying to justify the trade, yall just lost another good player to fake reports like this one.”

Pickens then revealed he forced the trade to Dallas, or at least to get out of Pittsburgh. He also deleted that tweet but mentioned Pittsburgh would’ve been glad to keep him but instead shipped him out.

“I forced buddy. They were gladly keeping me… have a nice day and a blessed one my guy,” Pickens wrote in a now deleted tweet. He made it clear, albeit briefly, that he wanted out.

Pickens has been productive over the last three seasons when he’s been on the field. Sure, there have been off-the-field headaches or in-game scuffles, as has happened with other star wide receivers. However, Pickens looks like one of the better wideouts in the game at his peak.

In 14 games last year, Pickens had 59 catches for 900 yards, 15.3 yards per catch and three touchdowns. Over the course of his career, he has 174 catches, 2,841 yards, 12 touchdowns and 16.3 yards per catch.

In Dallas, he joins CeeDee Lamb, a four-time Pro Bowler who has finished with more than 1,000 yards receiving in each of the past four seasons. Lamb spoke recently on what part of Pickens’ game excites him the most about the chance to play together, but he couldn’t pin down just one.

“Everything,” Lamb said. “His demeanor. Everything he brings to the table. Deep threat ability. Able to block. And just the energy he brings to the game. We complement each other very well.”

Unfortunately for Pickens and the Cowboys, there is no matchup with the Steelers this season. Unless of course, both are bound for Super Bowl LX.
