CeeDee Lamb going down with an injury opened the door for George Pickens. While he spent time as the top wide receiver in Pittsburgh, Pickens has flourished in the role in Dallas. Touchdowns in five straight games while totalling 525 yards means few in football are playing better than Pickens.

With the success comes questions about his future with the Cowboys. Pickens is in the final year of his contract, something the team knew when trading for him. Of course, there needs to be mutual desire to get some kind of deal done in the future, and Pickens appears open to remaining in Dallas.

“I wouldn’t mind it,” Pickens said via The Athletic‘s Jon Machota. “The guys in the locker room are super cool, the energy is great. I always want to showcase my talents.”

As of Monday, Pickens has a market value of over $145.5 million over five years per Spotrac. This would put him just under $30 million a year and among the highest-paid in football. Lamb recently signed a mega extension of his own, meaning the Cowboys would have a ton of resources invested into two wide receivers.

However, money is not at the top of Pickens’ mind when it comes to potentially staying in Dallas. His main goal is finding a way to win, a staple throughout his playing days. From high school to college and now into the NFL, it’s about winning for Pickens.

“Definitely winning,” Pickens said. “Just because that’s been my resume the whole time. I won in high school, I won at Georgia. Definitely winning, I always think about winning.”

In the short term, there are questions about Dallas’ ability to win. They come into a Week 7 matchup against the Washington Commanders with a record of 2-3-1. A loss in Charlotte to the Carolina Panthers means there is a lot of pressure to keep pace in the NFC East. No better way to do so than beating a divisional opponent.

At the same time, a lot of long-term thoughts are taking place when it comes to Pickens. Being an impending free agent comes with questions on a routine basis, no matter how the team is performing. Whether or not the wide receiver remains with the Cowboys moving forward will be a storyline until a new contract is signed. And now, we know what his personal intentions appear to be in mid-October.
