Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens is not too concerned about his contract situation with the team. While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Pickens was asked if he would like to get a new contract done now or wait until the offseason.

“That’s kinda up to what (Jerry Jones) wants to do,” George Pickens said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “All I can do is perform at my best.”

Pickens also said that there have not been any contract discussions yet. The Cowboys acquired the former Georgia Bulldogs star during the offseason via trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickens has been one of the best wide receivers in the NFL so far this year, catching 43 passes for 685 yards and six touchdowns through eight games.

What Pickens told reporters on Thursday confirms what was reported earlier this week. NFL insider Ed Werder said on Tuesday that the Cowboys and Pickens have not had contract talks this season. He’s in the final year of his rookie contract, and the plan for the Cowboys is to have him play out his rookie deal. That means that Pickens will likely hit the free agent market next offseason.

George Pickens would love to continue playing with the Cowboys

Earlier this month, Pickens discussed playing with the Cowboys beyond 2025. “I wouldn’t mind it,” Pickens said, per Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com. “The guys in the locker room are super cool, the energy’s great, but like I said, I always want to showcase my talents.”

Around the same time, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared his thoughts on Pickens’ future with the team. “We’ll weigh that,” he said. “We knew full well that if things really went like we want them to go, that certainly we need to think about having some room available if we’re going to pay a second receiver at that level.”

Pickens is one of the reasons the Cowboys’ offense is one of the best in the NFL. The team ranks second in the league in scoring offense (30.8 points per game), 12th in rushing offense (123.3 yards per game), first in passing offense (263.8 yards per game), and second in total offense (384.1 yards per game).
