George Pickens, Tyler Guyton injury update: Game status revealed for TNF vs. Lions

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens came off the injury report Wednesday and will play Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. Pickens had previously been listed with calf and ankle injuries.

Dallas, however, will be without left tackle Tyler Guyton for a second consecutive game. Guyton did not play in the Thanksgiving Day win over the Kansas City Chiefs, sidelined with a high ankle sprain. Nate Thomas started in place of Guyton and will do so again Thursday. Thomas has played 199 offensive snaps for the Cowboys this season, committing only two penalties and surrendering one sack.

Guyton was the Cowboys’ 2024 first-round selection out of Oklahoma. The 24-year-old has graded out 60th out of 80 offensive tackles, per Pro Football Focus. Guyton, however, has dropped his pressure rate from 9.4% in year one to 7.2% in year two.

As for Pickens, he’s been a star in his first season with the Cowboys. Acquired this past offseason from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickens has hauled in 73 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. He is the NFL‘s No. 2 leading receiver. Pickens was key in the win over the Chiefs, making six catches for 88 yards.

Cowboys will have George Pickens vs. Lions

Pickens’ rookie deal is up after this season. Dallas can sign Pickens to a long-term extension, or they can franchise tag him. Either way, he would like to be back in Dallas next season and potentially beyond.

“I’d love to be back,” Pickens said Thursday, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Especially with [CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott], all the guys really.”

The feeling is mutual for team owner/general manager Jerry Jones: “Of course, of course. We are proud to have him, and I don’t even want to play games with it. We’d love to have him on the team. By the way, I’d love to have [CeeDee Lamb] on the team. And I know what we’re asking around here, but we sure like the way the combination is really letting us execute on offense.

“… I’m proud he’s having the season he’s having. It exceeds anything we could have hoped for.”
