New York Giants offensive tackle James Hudson was penalized four times during one possession against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. In turn, was benched by the Giants’ staff and appeared to not be happy about it when he got back to the sideline.

He logged two unnecessary roughness penalties and two false starts during the stretch. He gave Giants head coach Brian Daboll and others on the sideline an earful, which was caught on the FOX broadcast. According to NFL on CBS, Hudson is the first player since 2000 to have four penalties called on his during the same drive.

All four penalties occurred between the 8:29 mark and 6:40 mark in the first quarter. The first was one of two unnecessary roughness penalties. This one negated a 10-yard rush by RB Cam Skattebo and pushed the Giants back to the Dallas 43-yard line.

On the Skattebo run, Hudson appeared to club Cowboys defensive end James Houston in his helmet after he slipped coming out of his stance. From there, the penalties piled up.

QB Russell Wilson completed an 11-yard pass to Wan’Dale Robinson on the next play, but the next two plays were marred by Hudson’s penalties. The first was the second unnecessary roughness call following a 50-yard reception from Wilson to Robinson. Hudson would cause false start penalties on two of the next three plays.

Overall, Giants were assessed nine penalties in the first half which cost them 80 yards in total. The Cowboys didn’t play a perfect half, either. Dallas finished the first two quarters with four penalties totaling 30 yards. Hudson cost New York four penalties for 50 yards by himself. Despite this, the Giants led the Cowboys 13-10 at halftime.

Neither team were able to establish the run during the first two quarters with New York finishing with 30 yards on the ground while the Cowboys had just 16. However, both teams were able to find their rhythm in the passing game.

Wilson finished the first half completing 17-20 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown. Dak Prescott completed 8-of-11 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown as well during the first two quarters.

Fans can tune into the second half of the Cowboys vs. Giants Week 2 divisional matchup live on FOX. Dallas will receive the opening kickoff of the second half, and can tie the game or take the lead with a score.
