The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran cornerback Greedy Williams Saturday in a series of roster moves from the team.

“Eagles have signed DT Robert Cooper, DT Marvin Wilson, DT Caleb Sanders, LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams, and LB Quinton Bell, Waived/Injured WR Tyrie Cleveland, DT Noah Elliss, CB Zech McPhearson, and released CB Greedy Williams and P Ty Zentner,” the team said on Twitter.

Williams was signed by the Eagles this offseason after he spent four years with the Cleveland Browns.

The former LSU product was a second round draft pick by the Browns in the 2019 NFL Draft. Over the course of his career, Williams had 99 total tackles, 78 solo tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass deflections and one forced fumble.

Williams dealt with injuries throughout his career. He only played 16 games once (2021) and missed the entire 2020 campaign.

At LSU, Williams redshirted in 2016 but played the ‘17 and ‘18 seasons. He finished with 71 total tackles, 49 solo tackles, eight interceptions and 19 pass deflections.

As a member of the Class of 2016, Williams was a four-star recruit out of Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist Academy, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 13 overall prospect in the state, the No. 21 cornerback in the class and the No. 232 overall prospect in the class.

Eagles release Greedy Williams in series of roster moves

The Eagles released Williams, along with punter Ty Zentner Saturday, in a flurry of moves following the team’s second preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Notably, the Eagles signed Marvin Wilson, a former five-star prospect and No. 5 overall recruit in the Class of 2017 out of Florida State. Wilson has been on and off the Eagles active roster and practice squad since 2021.

The team also signed former Rutgers linebacker Tyreek Maddox-Williams, who most recently spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers.

In addition to the release of Williams, the Eagles waived some players with injury designations. Zech McPhearson was a fourth-round pick by the Eagles out of Texas Tech in the 2021 NFL Draft and was a key special teams player during the team’s Super Bowl run last season.

He tore his Achilles in the preseason game against the Browns and was ruled out for the season. The former First-Team All-Big 12 player will be off the football field this fall.
