CB Carrington Valentine thought he got one on WR Ja’Marr Chase. Instead, the Packers’ cornerback may have only instigated the Bengals’ receiver.

After breaking up a pass intended for Chase, Valentine turned around to stare at him, turned back, and hit the griddy down the sideline while pointing to his teammates for Green Bay. However, on the next play, QB Joe Flacco went right back to Chase, who made a contested catch to score for Cincinnati before doing the dance himself in the end zone.

Valentine, a third-year defensive back for the Packers, had to have been pumped up to make a key play on an important down against Chase, one of the very best wide receivers in the NFL. He’d finish with that deflection on his stat line along with three tackles on defense. He also ended up with the last win in the end too as Green Bay won 27-18 over Cincinnati at Lambeau Field this evening.

However, his antics might have ended up at the expense of CB Keisean Nixon and S Xavier McKinney. They’re who Chase made the incredible, 19-yard touchdown catch over from their secondary on the very next play on fourth down, which cut the deficit to one possession at six before Cincy eventually lost by nine. In his first game catching passes from Flacco, Chase would finish with one of his better games this season with 10 receptions on 12 targets for 94 yards and this touchdown.

Valentine got the first laugh with the play he made, as well as the last one in the win with Green Bay. However, Chase got his as well with what was his fourth touchdown catch of the season, including three just in the past two games for Cincinnati.

Flacco plays well in first appearance with Cincinnati

Needing better quarterback play after losing QB Joe Burrow and playing the past three and a half games with QB Jake Browning, Cincinnati made a move in trading within the division for Flacco. Now, one game in, that deal looks to have been worth it.

Despite the nine-point loss at Green Bay, Flacco was 29-45 (64.4%) for 219 yards and two touchdowns. That, at least in a one-game sample size, is up from the play he had through four games with the Cleveland Browns prior to his trade, where he completed 58.1% of his throws for 203.8 yards per game with two touchdowns and eight turnovers in total.
