Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, made landfall Tuesday near New Hope, Jamaica, carrying winds of 185 mph, making it one of the strongest recorded storms in the Atlantic Basin. Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, who was heavily involved last year in Hurricane Helene relief efforts in western North Carolina, is ready to help provide aid to the island in its recovery efforts.

Biffle has prepared a rescue and relief response by air and by boat, he told WFMY News 2‘s Meghann Mollerus: “The biggest problem is we don’t know the terrain, we don’t know the extent of the damage. Obviously, this storm looks like it’s two to three times of the storm that hit western North Carolina.”

Biffle told the outlet he has a plane, a large boat and an aircraft landing pad compatible with a beach: “That could be very valuable in this situation, depending on if they [Jamaican communities] have a marina or dock left. They might not have any way to get supplies to shore.”

At a time when North Carolina needed help, Biffle helped provide it. Biffle used his personal helicopter to get supplies to people in western North Carolina. Additionally, his Venmo account accepted donations to pay for the fuel and supplies that were being delivered. It looks like Biffle will be a major part of relief efforts in Jamaica.

“As Hurricane Melissa makes landfall, hoping that as many people were able to head to higher ground as possible!!” Biffle wrote Tuesday on X. “We are trying to coordinate and explore all opportunities via by sea and air for relief efforts as quickly as we can to the Caribbean. We have the large boat and landing craft on standby for deployment to possibly take supplies once we can get an update and monitoring the situation like everyone and praying for all who are affected.”

Garrett Mitchell, widely known as Cleetus McFarland, is also offering to help. The YouTuber and NASCAR driver said in a Facebook post that he is offering to use his turboprop plane to fly people and supplies into Jamaica.
