Houston Texans running back Darius Anderson charged with burglary with intent to rape

Houston Texans running back Darius Anderson has been charged with burglary with intent to rape, NFL insider Aaron Wilson reported Monday. The charge is a first-degree felony.
According to charging documents, police were called to a home in Houston shortly after 7:30 a.m. Friday. A woman claimed that Anderson forced his way into the house and caused her to fall onto a staircase. She told police that he chased her around the house as she grabbed a gun in self defense, though she never used it. She hid in a bathroom and said Anderson left after hearing her call police.
A Texans spokesman on Monday evening confirmed the team was aware of the report.
“We are aware of the report involving Darius Anderson,” the Texans said in a statement. “We are gathering information and have no further comment at this time.”
Anderson was released on bond Friday, according to court records. He was prohibited from returning to the woman’s house and possessing a firearm.

A former TCU running back, Anderson spent four seasons in Fort Worth from 2016-19. He totaled 2,418 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns over that span before going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad for the Indianapolis Colts. That stint wouldn’t last long, however, as he was waived by August the following year.
Anderson spent the next year in limbo without an NFL team to call home. However, the Texans would finally scoop him up in December by adding him to their practice squad. After the conclusion of the 2021 season, Houston signed him to a reserves/futures contract.
Now facing felony charges, Darius Anderson’s future with the Texans and in the NFL is once again in limbo. There are no details yet as to when a potential trial might take place.
