Houston is coming off of a close call in Week 5, escaping Oregon State in overtime of a Friday night game. The Cougars trailed 24-10 in the fourth quarter but battled back to score a pair of touchdowns, including a 50-yard connection between Conner Weigman and Tanner Koziol, to force overtime.
It was a 24-yard field goal from Ethan Sanchez that allowed them to take the lead for the first time all night and walk out of Corvallis with a win. Weigman finished the victory with 270 yards passing and three total touchdowns with one interception.

Houston will face perhaps its biggest test of the season against Texas Tech, however. The Red Raiders are one of the best offenses in the country through the first few weeks, ranking sixth in the country in points per game (52.0) and fourth in yards per game (473.0).
Tech is coming off of a bye after rolling through Utah in Week 4 by a score of 34-10. However, quarterback Behren Morton left that game due to injury and his status will be worth watching.
Will Hammond took over for the injured Morton and led the Red Raiders to the win against the Utes. He looked sharp, completing 13-of-16 passing for 169 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Saturday’s meeting will be the 36th all-time between Texas Tech and Houston, with the Cougars owning an 18-16-1 advantage in the series. However, the Red Raiders have won six straight and 11 of the last 12, a trend they’ll hope continues.
