Ohio State handled No. 15 seed Maine with ease in the first round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament on Friday, cruising to the 80-57 victory. Four Buckeyes reached double-digit scoring, led by 19 points from Jacy Sheldon, to advance to the second round of the tournament.
Duke, meanwhile, knocked off Richmond 72-61 in its second straight March Madness appearance. The Blue Devils haven’t made the Sweet Sixteen since 2018, and the path to a return will run through the No. 2-seeded Buckeyes on Sunday.
Ohio State won’t make it easy, though. The Buckeyes have plenty of scoring power, with all five starters averaging at least 9.5 points per game. That means the Duke defense could have its hands full, especially since Ohio State is 16-1 this season. The lone loss at Value City Arena came to UCLA, which was also a No. 2 seed in this year’s Women’s NCAA Tournament.
