No one was more excited to see star receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens together in Cowboys jerseys on the first day of training camp than Brian Schottenheimer. The Dallas head coach was pumped up as he walked over the greet the pair of weapons that hope to score a lot of touchdowns in 2025.

The Cowboys have been used to having Lamb, who has led them in receiving each of the past four seasons. However, Pickens is a new addition to the team after being acquired via trade with Pittsburgh in exchange for a third-round draft pick and a fifth-round pick. He has many excited about the passing attack, including Schottenheimer, who was hyped to see the pair at practice on Tuesday.

Pickens is coming off of his third NFL season, posting numbers of 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns with the Steelers in 2024. Lamb is getting ready to enter his sixth year with the Cowboys and has led the team in receiving with 1,000 yards or more in each of the past four seasons.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the addition of Pickens coupled with the return of quarterback Dak Prescott from injury. Ownership and fans alike are hopeful that the passing game can be one of the most productive in recent years after last season’s disappointing 7-10 finish.

It’s also a big year for Schottenheimer, who takes over as head coach after spending the past three seasons as offensive coordinator. He replaces Mike McCarthy.

Time will tell whether all the changes this offseason, but the excitement is palpable as it should be at this time of year. The Cowboys will continue through training camp before their first preseason game, scheduled for Aug. 9 against the Los Angeles Rams.

CeeDee Lamb on George Pickens: ‘We complement each other very well’

Lamb is eager to have a talent like Pickens in the receiver rooms with him as well. The receiver spoke in May on what part of Pickens’ game excites him the most about the chance to play together, but he couldn’t pin down just one.

“Everything,” Lamb said. “His demeanor. Everything he brings to the table. Deep threat ability. Able to block. And just the energy he brings to the game. We complement each other very well.”

After Lamb, Jalen Tolbert was the next leading receiver for the Cowboys in 2024 and managed only 49 catches for 610 yards and seven touchdowns. He and Pickens will now likely start alongside Lamb in what looks on paper to be a much stronger group of wideouts.
