Indiana put the country firmly on notice over the weekend with an absolute demolition of a top-10 Illinois squad. The game was close for the opening possession and that was about it.

The final score was 63-10 and somehow that didn’t feel like it did justice to how big of a blowout it was. Just about everyone got in on the act.

Quarterback Fernando Mendoza went 21-of-23 passing for 267 yards and five touchdowns, all without throwing an interception. And the team also ran for 312 yards. For Indiana, it was Khobie Martin who paced things with 107 yards and two scores.

Stopping that unit will be tough, even for an Iowa program traditionally known for its staunch defenses. Kirk Ferentz and company will have their work cut out for them.

So far this season Iowa has been pretty good, but it lost its toughest matchup against a ranked Iowa State. That was a tight contest, and Iowa will look to turn this one against Indiana into a similar affair.

For the Hawkeyes, quarterback Mark Gronowski leads the way as a dual-threat option. He has thrown for 492 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 143 yards and six scores.
