The Indianapolis Colts have officially activated former Ohio State star receiver Parris Campbell from injured reserve. The former Buckeyes’ star is expected to play against the Jaguars on Sunday after returning from a foot injury.

Early on in the 2021 season, Campbell was having some success, hauling in 10 catches for 162 receiving yards and a touchdown. One of his best games came against the Houston Texans, when he hauled in a 51-yard touchdown catch.

Unfortunately for Campbell, he injured his foot on that same exact play. He fractured the foot and had to undergo surgery. He’s been rehabbing since then and now he’s officially ready for a return.

It’ll be interesting to see if the exciting deep play threat can add some juice to the Colts’ passing attack. He’d be a nice deep threat to help take some attention off of Indianapolis receiver Michael Pittman.

Pittman has enjoyed a breakout year in his second year in the league. He’s stepped up big-time in Campbell’s absence; hauling in 82 catches for 1,018 receiving yards, while bring in five touchdown catches. The former Southern Cal Trojan had his best game in Week 2 against the Rams, snagging 12 catches for 123 receiving yards and no touchdowns.

Campbell’s NFL career has marred by numerous injuries

Campbell has showed potential in the very limited action fans have gotten to see him in the NFL. The problem is, he just can’t get healthy. He’s battled a number of injuries in his career: including a hand fracture, a foot fracture, a knee sprain, and a concussion. There are a number of others.

For his sake and for the Colts’ sake, it’d be awesome to see what kind of production he could have while staying healthy for a full season.

Thus far in his three-year NFL career, he’s only played in 14 games, starting eight of those.

Ohio State Career

In 2018, Campbell set an Ohio State record with 90 catches. He also hauled in 1,063 receiving yards for the Buckeyes, and he became only the fifth Ohio State player to cross the 1,000-yard receiving mark. Perhaps his most memorable catch at Ohio State came against Michigan, when he hauled in a career-long 78 yard touchdown catch from Dwayne Haskins

It was an electrifying display that showed off Campbell’s tremendous potential. Undoubtedly, Ohio State fans will never forget the play. The former four-star prospect caught 143 passes in his college career, ranking him seventh in program history. His 15 touchdown catches ranked him 15th in Buckeye history, as well.

For now, Campbell will look forward to his NFL game action since Oct. 18.
