Indianapolis Colts forced to delete schedule release video over ‘insensitive clip’ involving Tyreek Hill, IP violation

Of all the posts for schedule releases last night in the NFL, the one from the Indianapolis Colts came down soon after. The franchise has since explained why, with an apology for that reasoning as well.
In a release this morning, the Colts said they deleted the clip because of a reference to Tyreek Hill, with the star receiver being as a dolphin that the coast guard was arresting in the clip, for their scheduled opener against Miami. It was also in relation to the use of the Minecraft-stylized brand in the clip, with Microsoft owning the site, as they didn’t have the same permission that the Los Angeles Chargers got for a similar video for their release.
“We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.”
With that, Indianapolis had to pivot as far as their schedule release. They instead shared a thread, created by ‘playoff paint’, with art made for all of their opponents for next season.
Hill, a five-time All-Pro having now played three seasons for the Dolphins, has had some off-field issues during his playing career. Of the most recent of those was when he was detained by Miami-Dade Police going to last season’s opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He was given a pair of citations for the matter while an officer involved was placed on administrative leave at the time.

With this opener being one day shy of a year since that incident, someone with the franchise must have thought it was worth referencing in this year’s release. However, it clearly missed the mark with the Colts since having to remove the post and address it today.
Indianapolis will kick off the season at home against Miami, with Hill, on September 7th at 1 p.m. EST on CBS. The rest of that schedule includes all of their six divisional matchups against the AFC South, games against the West in both the AFC and NFC, and a pair of matchups to start November against Pittsburgh and Atlanta before going into their bye in Week 11.
The Colts have gone 17-17 through a pair of seasons under Shane Steichen. That’s been good enough for second in the division in both years but not good enough to get them into the playoffs in either as they haven’t been in since 2020.
The schedule releases are meant to be a fun part of the offseason with the event having taken a life of its own for every franchise in how they share the games they’ll be playing in the fall. The Colts, though, have had to delete and since address theirs instead considering what they posted.
