Insiders commend NASCAR for aero changes made for Talladega

While NASCAR opted to make an aero change at Talladega, they did not go with the cumbersome solution originally planned. While they had to make a quick decision to add fabric to the roof flap, taller roof rails, and an additional piece on the rocker panel.
All things considered, the changes were a success. NASCAR avoided any blowovers or airborne cars at Talladega. After Michigan and Daytona a few weeks ago, that is a welcomed result.
Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic wanted to give props to NASCAR for Talladega. At least, this one part of it. The two journalists talked about it on The Teardown after the race Sunday.
“Last week on the podcast we talked about how there might be this sharkfin-like device going right down the windshield,” Gluck said. “They elected not to do that because they said the drivers had a lot of visibility concerns. So, they still had some new aero devices. And that was put to the test when you have a 28-car crash all going pretty fast for the win there with five laps to go or whatever it was. And we saw no airborne cars today, no rollovers, everybody stayed on the ground. So that’s a plus, right?”
It wasn’t just the Cup Series. NASCAR kept all of the cars and trucks on the ground last weekend. That’s always good news.

No flips across NASCAR national series at Talladega
Jordan Bianchi brought up a good point. We didn’t see a single flip, in any race. The Xfinity Series and Truck Series have also had their fair share of upside-down racers this season.
The fact we didn’t see a car or truck lift off the ground is major. NASCAR succeeded in its mission.
“Throughout the whole weekend, by the way. Which I think needs to be noted because you had all three series racing this weekend, all three series had no issues like that,” Bianchi explained. “That is a win. We’ve seen it too many times, airborne cars, kudos to NASCAR for addressing it. Whatever the issue was and I’m not 100% sure what the issue was. It seems to be at least they figured it out for this race and that’s good, that’s a positive.”
It felt like we were going to have a major issue on our hands after Michigan and Daytona. When you have multiple flips like that so close together, it’s cause for concern. But for now, it appears NASCAR has an answer for Talladega and other large ovals on the schedule.
