Former Georgia and Washington quarterback Jacob Eason has a new home. The nation’s former top overall recruit coming out of high school started to show some flashes of promise this pre-season for the Indianapolis Colts. Now, he’ll be heading to his home state of Washington, the place where he once shined in high school and college football.

Eason was claimed on Wednesday by the Seattle Seahawks off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. The Seahawks were in need of another quarterback since their starter, Russell Wilson recently suffered an injury to his right middle finger in Week 5 against the Rams. Wilson had surgery on the finger and the Seahawks have already stated they expect him back at some point in the season.

Backup quarterback Geno Smith is now the starting quarterback for the Seahawks, with Eason set to back him up. The Seahawks have also explored other options at quarterback and they have spoken with Cam Newton, according to Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

In the preseason, Eason looked impressive in his 2021 debut against the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 15.

The 6-foot-6, 23`1-pound signal-caller completed 15 of his 21 pass attempts for 183 passing yards, while tossing zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Eason has thrown five passes this year in the regular season against the LA Rams, and those did not go as well. His second pass in the NFL was picked off by Rams All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey.

Eason replaced an injured Carson Wentz in the game after he went down with a right ankle injury. The Washington native completed just two of his five passing attempts for 25 passing yards while tossing one interception and no touchdowns.

JACOB EASON CAREER ARC

Eason was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 122nd overall selection in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In 2020, Eason served as the third-string quarterback, behind Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett.

The Washington native played for both the Georgia Bulldogs and Washington Huskies in college. While at Georgia, he had to compete with former Bulldog quarterbacks Jake Fromm, and Justin Fields, so he decided to transfer to Washington.

That quarterback room at Georgia while Eason was there was one of the most talented quarterback rooms (Justin Fields, Jake Fromm, Jacob Eason) in college football history; as all three quarterbacks are still currently in the National Football League.

In 2019 for the Huskies, Eason started all 13 games and finished the season with 3,132 passing yards, the fourth-highest total in Washington single-season history. His 23 touchdown passes that season were the sixth most ever by a quarterback in the Husky program.

JACOB EASON HIGH SCHOOL

Coming out of high school, he was one of the most decorated quarterbacks in America, earning Gatorade National Player of the Year honors in 2015. During his career at Lake Stevens (Lake Stevens, Washington) high school, Eason piled up 9,813 passing yards.

For his entire high school career, he completed 662 of 1,025 pass attempts, while throwing 102 touchdowns and just 18 interceptions. In the 2016 recruiting class, Eason was rated as the top pro-style quarterback in the country, according to some scouting services.
