Jaire Alexander injury update: NFL insider reveals Packers CB underwent surgery, return timeline

Green Bay Packers (11-5) head coach Matt LaFleur announced Wednesday that cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee) will likely miss the remainder of the season.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Alexander underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday to alleviate his pain and swelling. Schefter noted that Alexander *could* make it back for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans if the Packers advance through the NFC.
Alexander is no stranger to the injury bug. He played in just four games in 2021, and seven this past season. This season, the 27-year-old has been dealing with a PCL tear and hasn’t played since Nov. 17 — a Week 11 win over the Chicago Bears (4-12).
The two-time Pro Bowler has been effective in the seven games he’s played in, recording 16 tackles (15 tackles), two interceptions, a pick six and seven passed defended. Alexander has graded out as Pro Football Focus‘ No. 20 cornerback this season (75.2 overall grade).

Packers need to win in playoffs without Jaire Alexander
When Alexander is on the field, Green Bay’s pass defense is among the league’e elite.
“When Alexander is on the field this season, the Packers have allowed seven touchdown passes and intercepted eight passes while giving up a 61.0 completion percentage and a 77.5 passer rating. The completion percentage would rank second best among all teams; the passer rating would be the best in the NFL by almost five points,” Zach Kruse of Packers Wire wrote.
When Alexander is off the field, things arw different.
“When Alexander isn’t on the field, the Packers have allowed 15 touchdown passes and intercepted eight passes while giving up a 70.0 completion percentage and a 95.3 passer rating. The completion percentage would be the worst in the NFL; the passer rating would rank 23rd,” Kruse wrote.
We’ll see if Alexander’s absence costs Green Bay in the playoffs later this month.
