WATCH: Jake Matthews reacts to having a baby boy
Former Texas A&M star Jake Matthews has had a number of different things to celebrate this offseason, one of them being the fact that he landed a massive new contract that’s worth more than $18 million a year. On Sunday evening, his wife Meggi posted to Twitter Jake Matthews’ reaction to the fact that he’s having a baby boy.

It’s pretty cool to see him get so excited about having a boy. The Matthews family has had plenty to celebrate and be thankful for these past few months, that’s for sure.
The Falcons brought in former USC star Drake London to help take some of the pressure off their freakish tight end, Kyle Pitts. The key question for the franchise is who will be under center for them this fall? Their third-round draft selection, Desmond Ridder? Or will it be Marcus Mariota? That’s still to be determined.
The Atlanta Falcons drafted Matthews No. 6 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. Since, the Falcons are the only team he’s played for throughout his career. Over the years, he’s been a staple on an Atlanta offensive line whose job it was to keep Matt Ryan upright.
Next season, they’ll be blocking for either Mariota or Ridder.
Throughout his time with the Falcons, the former Texas A&M star has been a steadying presence along the offensive line. A few months ago, Atlanta ensured Matthews will remain with the franchise for the foreseeable future.
Jake Matthews college career with Texas A&M
When he played his college football for the Texas A&M Aggies, the gifted tackle proved to be one of the game’s elite prospects and he’s got the near flawless resume to prove it.
In the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Matthews earned first team All-SEC and first team All-American honors. Not only that, he also earned unanimous All-American honors following the 2013 season. There’s no question his ability to shut down opposing defenders was critical in giving the Aggies’ 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny Manziel, plenty of time in the pocket.
His senior season with Texas A&M, Matthews switched from right tackle to left tackle. He’d played right tackle for the previous three seasons. That’s a remarkable display of versatility and it once again shows how elite of a prospect Matthews has been at every turn.
According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2010 cycle, he was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 37 overall prospect in America.
