If Jameis Winston is starting, you can guarantee a one-of-a-kind pregame speech is to follow. Well, it’s Sunday, Week 12 of the 2025 NFL season, and Winston is starting his second consecutive game for the New York Giants.

So, we were blessed with another Winston pregame speech. The Giants are playing the Detroit Lions on the road. Winston wants everyone to know that “we outside but we inside.”

Winston is starting under center in place of Jaxson Dart, who remains sidelined with a concussion. Winson, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Giants this past offseason, started the season as the team’s third-string quarterback behind Dart and Russell Wilson.

Following the firing of head coach Brian Daboll, interim head coach Mike Kafka placed Winston above Wilson on the depth chart. Winston completed 19-of-29 passes for 201 yards and an interception in the Giants’ 27-20 Week 11 home defeat to the Green Bay Packers.

“The beauty of Jameis, the beauty of our group on offense and defense and special teams is our guys prep,” Kafka said earlier this week. “They put the work in. They’re preparing themselves to play. Whether they’re a practice squad guy or they’re a backup in a primary role, they’re preparing and they’re asking questions and they’re detailing out their work throughout the work week.

“So, no surprise to me that Jameis is ready to go. I have full confidence in him, just like I did last week, and we’ll just keep on carrying on and Jameis will carry the torch for the group.”

Jameis Winston gets another start for Giants

Winston spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns, serving as backup to Deshaun Watson. Winston made seven starts for the Browns, going 2-5. He threw for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 61.1% passing.

Winston, the 2015 No. 1 overall pick out of Florida State, was last a full-time starter in 2021 for the New Orleans Saints. He went 5-2 in seven games as starter before tearing his ACL.

From 2015-2019, Winston started under center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston had flashes of high-end play, though turnovers were a constant issue throughout his tenure. In 2019, his final season as starter in Tampa Bay, Winston passed for over 5,000 yards, while also throwing for 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
