Jauan Jennings calls Tre’von Moehrig groin shot that led to postgame punch 'childish behavior'

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings took a shot no football player expects to. Tre’von Moehrig of the Carolina Panthers got him below the belt as the game ended. A mini-brawl then began, with Jennings shoving him back and getting heated.

When speaking with the media after the game, Jennings gave his side of the story. He believes the move from Moehrig was “childish” and, obviously, not something he was too fond of. And instead of breaking down the moment, television replays are going to do the talking for Jennings.

“The TV is going to tell you what happened, man,” Jennings said. “I was just responding, to me, to some childish behavior.”

Jennings then ended his media session by saying, “Have a good night. Don’t get hit in the nuts.”

Exactly why this happened is not known. There does not appear to be any kind of rivalry between the two players, even dating back to college days. Jennings played at Tennessee and got drafted all the way back in 2020, while Moehrig came out the following year after a successful career at TCU.

“Pushed him in the back, that’s it,” Moehrig said, looking at his side. “… Not much to it. … He wanted to do a little dirty stuff.”

As this is not a divisional matchup, we will not see the 49ers and Panthers meet up again during the regular season. Of course, the playoffs are certainly a possibility since both teams are currently in the picture. Pushes for winning their respective divisions are coming.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan reacts to moment

While many expected to be talking about a San Francisco win during the postgame press conferences, the topic of conversation quickly switched. This included for head coach Kyle Shanahan. His reaction was more of a proud moment for his player, who, for the most part, did his best to contain emotions.

“The guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls,” Shanahan said at the podium. “I was really proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there and get him to the sideline.”

Now, all attention turns to the league office, which has some decisions to make. Both the 49ers and Panthers are scheduled to play on Sunday, having a short week after Monday Night Football. You have to imagine some suspensions are coming down, at least to Moehrig, for his actions.
