Jauan Jennings punches Tre'Von Moehrig postgame over in-game groin shot from defender
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings and Carolina Panthers safety Tre’Von Moehrig got into a physical altercation following the Week 12 Monday Night Football matchup. After the game, a 20-9 49ers victory, Jennings walked up to Moehrig and threw a punch.
During the game, Moehrig hit Jennings in the groin area. Jennings retaliated after the final whistle. 49ers’ staff has to tackle Jennings to the ground to keep him away from Moehrig after he threw the first punch.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the incident after the game. He stood by Jennings after being on the receiving end of a “cheap shot.”
“The guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls,” Shanahan said. “I was real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there and getting to the sideline.”
Jennings called it “childish behavior by Moehrig. He waited till after the game to retaliate, and that was on purpose.
“The TV is gonna tell you what happened. I was just responding, to me, some childish behavior. That’s all it was,” Jennings said. “… We talk about all the time about how small this window is for us, so being a seventh rounder, cut, I didn’t wanna make any mistakes. I’m trying to go out there and play as hard as I can, and I like the refs to help me out when they can.”

49ers beat Panthers on MNF as Jauan Jennings, Tre’Von Moehrig get into altercation postgame
Tempers flared in Santa Clara, and it could lead to discipline from the NFL. This is the second consecutive week in which a punch was thrown. Last Sunday, it was Pittsburgh Steelers safety Jalen Ramsey who punched Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and got himself ejected from the game and later fined $14,491. Ramsey’s punch was in response to Chase spitting on him.
Back in Week 5, Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch punched Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster after the game. Branch was suspended one game by the NFL.
Jennings came up big for the 49ers in Monday’s win. He hauled in five passes for 41 yards and a score. His 12-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter gave the 49ers a 7-0 lead. Moehrig, meanwhile, tallied eight tackles (four solo) and one tackle for loss.
The Panthers were outclassed for much of the night, struggling to generate much on offense. Carolina finished with just 230 total yards, and quarterback Bryce Young threw a couple of interceptions. The Panthers had a chance to head into Week 13 with an NFC South lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They remain second, while the 49ers (8-4) hold the seventh and final playoff spot in the NFC.
