The injury hits continue to come for the San Francisco 49ers. Receivers Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall both left Sunday’s contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pearsall landed hard on his right knee after making a catch early in the third quarter. He immediately went to the medical tent and his return is still questionable.

Jennings suffered his injury after being sandwiched between two defenders while making a two-point conversion. His status for the rest of the game is also unknown.

Pearsall was eventually able to return for one more play but said postgame he “felt a little bit of pain” and “just kind of shut it down from there.” That will put him in question heading toward the next week of practice.

“I was just feeling pain a little bit and instability, so I wasn’t trying to really mess with it,” Pearsall said. “I was moving around, I was working with some of the trainers to try to make it feel better to go back out there and that wasn’t the case for me. I went out for one more play and felt a little bit of pain and a little instability.”

Jennings, on the other hand, did thankfully managed to return to the game and finished with two catches for 24 yards. He told reporters postgame that he did not expect to see any setbacks ahead of next week’s game.

The 49ers went on to lose 26-21 against the Jaguars, their first defeat of the season as they fell to 3-1. They have a short turnaround as they face the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, and we’re sure to get more updates on Pearsall ahead of that game.

Entering Sunday, Ricky Pearsall led the 49ers in receiving with 16 catches for 281 yards through the first three games. If he is unable to go, it will mean San Francisco will be even more shorthanded on pass catchers with tight end George Kittle and receiver Brandon Aiyuk both already out due to injury.

Running back Christian McCaffrey shouldered most of the load Sunday as he rushed it 17 times for 49 yards and also led the team in receiving with six catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. In light of the injuries, he may be asked to do even more next week. We’ll see how it plays out when the 49ers kick off against the Rams at 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday.
