Javonte Williams injury update: Cowboys release status on RB vs. Vikings
Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams suffered an injury in the Sunday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings. During the first quarter, the team announced that Williams suffered a shoulder injury and is questionable to return.
Todd Archer of ESPN reported that Williams was on the sidelines after the Cowboys announced his injury. Williams was flexing his left arm/shoulder as the medical staff was examining him. Before the injury, Javonte Williams rushed for 13 yards and one touchdown on six carries.
Entering Sunday’s game, Williams tallied 1,022 rushing yards and nine touchdown on 215 carries in 13 games. He joined Dallas this season after spending his first four years with the Denver Broncos.
Williams reached 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career earlier this month when the Cowboys fell to the Detroit Lions 44-30. “Yeah, I feel good, to finally reach that milestone after all the stuff that I’ve been through,” Williams said, per Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com. “But I wish we could’ve gotten the win and played a little bit better, execute a little bit better on both sides, take care of the quarterback, protect the ball — we just need to execute better.”

Dak Prescott has ‘love’ for Javonte Williams
“Love him, love him,” Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said when talking about Williams. “Proud of him as a teammate, proud of his response and resilience. For me, just the injury, coming to a new team, and just the way that he stepped up and is having one hell of a year. His success on the field, and the teammate he is, and the guy that he is in meetings in the locker room — we’re fortunate as hell to have him. And hopefully we can keep him.”
The Broncos selected Williams in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old had a strong rookie season, rushing for 903 yards and four touchdowns on 203 carries. Williams missed most of the 2025 season due to multiple injuries but returned in 2023 and rushed for 774 yards and three touchdowns on 217 attempts. Last year, the former North Carolina star registered 513 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 139 carries.
