Jayden Daniels injury: Dan Quinn reveals Commanders QB's status for Wednesday practice, outlook for Week 8

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn provided an injury update on quarterback Jayden Daniels on Wednesday, as the star quarterback deals with a rib injury.
The reigning second overall selection from the 2024 NFL Draft suffered the ailment in the win over the Carolina Panthers this past weekend. Marcus Mariota piloted the ship the rest of the way after Daniels left in the first quarter. Since, he’s been labeled as week-to-week, but he’s not practicing on Wednesday, per Quinn.
“I know a lot of you are tracking Jayden’s participation. He won’t practice today,” Quinn said during his Wednesday press conference, via Chad Ricardo of FOX 5 DC. “He’ll continue in all the meetings and our individual stuff. He’ll go through that, and he’ll get treatment today.
“He’ll continue to progress throughout today and tomorrow, and I’ll update you guys after Friday’s practice, and go from there.”

While the Commanders didn’t need Daniels as they beat the Panthers 40-7 in Week 7, they’re going to want him for the coming months, so it’ll be all about keeping the quarterback healthy. In his stead, the aforementioned Mariota took over for Daniels and threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns. With the win, the Commanders are 5-2 and are in first place in the NFC East.
Daniels has been a big reason the Commanders have a chance to win their first division title since 2020. The former LSU Tigers quarterback has completed 75.3 percent of his passes for 1,404 yards six touchdowns and two interceptions in his first six games this year. Daniels has also been strong in the running game, tallying 322 rushing yards and four touchdowns (not including totals from the Panthers game).
