Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn gave an injury update on quarterback Jayden Daniels ahead of the Week 4 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Quinn said that Daniels, who is dealing with a knee injury, will practice in a limited capacity.

“He is doing everything you possibly can to get there,” Quinn said, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. Jayden Daniels suffered the injury during the Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers earlier this month. He did not practice last week, which led to the Commanders going with Marcus Mariota as their starting QB for the game against the Las Vegas Raiders this past weekend.

Mariota threw for 207 yards, ran for 40 yards, and totaled two touchdowns to help Washington win 41-24. “This means a lot to me, so it was awesome,” Mariota said after the game. “It was such a good group of guys that were dedicated to doing their best and executing, and it was fun to be a part of today.”

If Daniels can’t play this upcoming weekend, Mariota will be ready to face a familiar team. Mariota was the starting QB for the Falcons in 2022 and threw for 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 13 games. He also rushed for 438 yards and four touchdowns while posting a 5-8 record.

The last time the Commanders took on the Falcons was Week 17 of last year, and it was a showcase of Daniels and Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Commanders won in overtime 30-24, and Daniels threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 127 yards. Penix threw for 223 yards and a game-tying touchdown with 1:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.

In two games this year, Daniels has completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 433 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 85 yards on 18 carries. He aims to build on a 2024 season where he led the Commanders to the NFC Championship game and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.
