Jayden Daniels injury update: Washington QB heads to locker room after awkward hit

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered an apparent leg injury in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Daniels was slow to get up after taking a hit that caused him to fumble, and he appeared to be favoring his right leg as he limped to the sideline.
Replay of the play showed Daniels’ lower leg get twisted up on the tackle. He was taken to the injury tent and later seen making his way back to the locker room.
The injury was later determined to be a hamstring for Daniels, who gave a thumbs up as he headed to the locker room. FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews offered an update on his status a few moments later, saying he is questionable to return.
“He went inside the tent and was there for a while,” Andrews said. “The best indication we got? That thumbs up, that was over to his mom who’s standing right behind me. Commanders are saying he is questionable to return, but I gotta think that thumbs up to his mom was a giving her a little bit of reassurance that he’s gonna be OK.”
Jayden Daniels unfortunately never return to the game as the Commanders would go on to lose by a score of 44-22. The QB finished the day 12-of-22 passing for 156 yards along with 35 yards rushing and two total touchdowns prior to his injury.

Marcus Mariota stepped in to finish out the game in place of Daniels but threw an interception on his first drive as Dallas continued to build its lead. Mariota ultimately finished the day 4-of-10 passing for 63 yards and the interception along with 34 yards rushing.
Daniels also missed two weeks earlier this season after he suffered a knee sprain in Week 2. Washington went 1-1 in the games that he sat out as Mariota started both contests.
The Commanders dropped to 3-4 on the season with the loss Sunday, which was their second straight and their third in the past four games. All attention will be on the health of Daniels heading into their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs next week on Monday Night Football. We’ll likely have a better idea of where he stands for that contest around the middle of the upcoming week.
