Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed was ruled out five snaps into his start last night against the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football. The Packers have now revealed the diagnosis on the third-year receiver and he is set to miss significant time.

Following the 27-18 win at Lambeau Field last night, Green Bay revealed that Reed had suffered a fractured collarbone. He’ll be set to go on injured reserve from here and “miss a lot of time,” but with the hope that he’ll be back at some point for the Packers later on this season.

“He’s going to miss a lot of time,” LaFleur said postgame. “So, unfortunately, you know, he broke his collarbone, so he’ll be down for quite some time.”

Reed was injured on the opening drive of Thursday night’s win when he reached out to try and make a touchdown catch. That receiving score was then taken away due to a flag against Green Bay.

With Reed going out five snaps in, he didn’t record any statistics against the Commanders. That’s after catching three of five targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the team’s divisional win to open a few days beforehand against the Lions.

The Packers would obviously have a better receiving corps with Reed, not just with his production, being their leading receiver in his first two seasons in the league, but with what LaFleur says he brings to their entire team. That said, Green Bay does have one of the better collections of pass-catchers in the NFL with names like Tucker Kraft, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, or Matthew Golden.

Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love, has played well through two wins, sitting at a 66% completion for 480 yards and four touchdowns. He should be able to work with those options around him on offense until Reed is able to make his potential return at some point.

“You know, obviously, it’s a big blow to us,” LaFleur said of Reed. “He’s a guy that is a catalyst for our offense, and our football team, quite frankly – the energy (he) brings, and he is a dog. He comes out there and he’s going to compete and he plays tough, physical and he’s a playmaker. You know, fortunately for us, I feel like we have a pretty deep wide receiver room and there’s going to be opportunities there for other guys to step up and take advantage of.”

This is about the only negative so far this season for Green Bay. The lone positive about it, though, is that the Packers do expect to get Reed back sometime later on this fall

“We’ll see how fast he can recover and heal,” LaFleur said. “Certainly, I would expect him back at some point this season.”
