Jaylon Johnson injury update: Report reveals Bears CB's status for Monday Night Football vs. Vikings

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is out for Monday night’s season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, per Jordan Schultz. Johnson participated in warm ups, but wasn’t cleared to play.
Johnson (calf, groin) was a limited participant in Chicago’s practices for three-straight days leading into Monday Night Football. In the end, the All-Pro CB appears to need at least another week to recover.
The Bears released its full inactives list ahead of Monday night’s matchup. Minnesota followed suit.
Bears:
DB Jaylon Johnson
QB Case Keenum
LB TJ Edwards
DL Shemar Turner
DB Kyler Gordon
RB Roschon Johnson
OL Kiran Amegadjie
Vikings:
QB Max Brosmer
S Harrison Smith
RB Zavier Scott
OG Joe Huber
OT Christian Darrisaw
DL Elijah Williams
Elsewhere on the injury report, linebacker TJ Edwards did not practice all week leading up to the matchup and had been labeled as doubtful coming in. In Edwards’ place, the Bears’ rookie fourth-round draft pick Ruben Hyppolite II is expected to see some additional playing time against the Vikings.

“He has really come into his own,” Bears head coach Ben Johnson said of the rookie. “He is really smart. He takes it seriously. Really athletic. D.A. (defensive coordinator Dennis Allen) and that side of the ball, they’ve really grown to think he is someone we can depend on even though we’re going to have the bright lights of Monday Night Football on us.
“I’d anticipate him on the field there on defense. He’s got to be a playmaker for us on special teams. And I think we’re going to continue to see that player ascend.”
Hyppolite said there was a lot of excitement on his part being able to see the field during his first NFL game. However, he knows Monday night is all about doing his part to help his team win. A strong showing for the former Maryland standout could lead to an extended role in the Bears’ defense down the line.
Kickoff between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings is set for 1 p.m. ET and will air live on ABC and ESPN. The Bears are a one-point betting favorite to win the season opener, according to BetMGM. The over/under is set at 43.5 total points.
The Bears will hope to have Johnson back in the lineup for Week 2. Chicago will hit the road to take on the Detroit Lions for the second game of the young NFL season.
