The NASCAR stars are already in Mexico for the weekend, and Jeff Gordon has a very special role in the Viva Mexico 250. Gordon, a four-time champion and Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, will give the command to start engines on Sunday.

NASCAR is racing in Mexico for the first time ever for a Cup Series points race. The Xfinity Series is returning to the country after years away. It is a big deal, and the work and logistics that have gone into this event have been immense. We are close to seeing the payoff.

Jeff Gordon, one of the biggest names in the sport to this day, is going to get things started on Sunday. He will give the command as the Viva Mexico 250 gets underway.

Prime Video has the coverage. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be in attendance as a broadcaster on Prime. He has had one heck of a time getting there, and he may not be in Mexico as of right now. His flight had issues, and the NASCAR Hall of Famer is seeking “alternative solutions” to make it to the track. Sounds like the beginning of a hilarious comedy movie starring John Candy.

The NASCAR industry is ready to put the Cup and Xfinity Series on display in front of a national audience. Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is awaiting these drivers with its right and left turns. This is the first road course race since COTA in the third week of the season.

Jeff Gordon ready to give the command

For Jeff Gordon, this weekend could be very special. He’s giving the command in the first international points-paying race since 1958, and he hopes to end the day in Victory Lane with one of his Hendrick Motorsports drivers.

Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and William Byron are all very good road course racers. They have all won road course races in their careers. While Elliott has seven road course wins, he has yet to win one in the Next Gen car. His teammates haven’t had many issues, though.

Last year, Byron won at COTA. Bowman won the Chicago Street Course race. Meanwhile, Larson won two road course races, Sonoma and the Roval. But this is a brand-new race track for the field. Could that give drivers like AJ Allmendinger and Shane van Gisbergen a window to steal a win and punch their ticket into the NASCAR Playoffs?

Sunday will start with Jeff Gordon giving the command. Will it end with him celebrating with one of the Hendrick drivers and the Viva Mexico 250 trophy?
