Legendary movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer is ready to do a Days of Thunder sequel with Tom Cruise. At the F1 premiere in mid-June, Bruckheimer spoke to Entertainment Tonight about a new Days of Thunder movie being in the works.

“There’s always new technology. There’s always new ways to do things and see things,” Bruckheimer said. “Tom is such a great individual, comes up with phenomenal ideas. So we’ll have something really exciting for an audience once we pull it together.”

Jerry Bruckheimer was the producer of the original Days of Thunder film that was released in 1990. Tom Cruise starred as Cole Trickle, a young NASCAR driver looking to make his way to the top of the Cup Series. Days of Thunder was a financial success as it made over $157 million worldwide. It also earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound.

In November 2024, it was reported that Cruise was in final talks to star and produce a Days of Thunder sequel. This month, Joseph Kosinski, the director of F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, spoke to GQ about the dream pitch he has for a Days of Thunder sequel, which includes a crossover with F1 star Brad Pitt.

Will Brad Pitt reunite with Tom Cruise in ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel?

“Well, right now, it’d be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise’s] Days of Thunder character, we find out that he and [Brad Pitt’s] Sonny Hayes have a past,” Kosinski said. “They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths… I heard about this epic go-kart battle on ‘Interview With a Vampire’ that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?”

It would be big to see Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt back on the big screen in a racing movie. The two movie stars were featured in the 1994 horror film Interview with the Vampire. The film was a huge success as it made $223.7 million worldwide and earned two Academy Award nominations.

Cruise reunited with Pitt during the F1 premiere in London last week. The 62-year-old went to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Pitt at the premiere. “Great night at the movies with my friends!!” Cruise wrote. “You guys crushed it!!”

Shortly after that post, Cruise went back to Instagram to reflect on the 35th anniversary of Days of Thunder. “I always love the fun and adrenaline of a racing film,” he wrote. “Today marks two racing milestones for my friend Jerry Bruckheimer, the release of F1 and the 35 year anniversary to the day of our collaboration with the great Tony Scott on Days of Thunder. Incredible to look back on this film today, and congratulations to Jerry, Brad, Joe and the whole F1 team on their release!”
